Meet Cathy
“Montessori isn’t just a teaching method—it’s a way to love, lead, and let children discover the world as God created it. I believe faith and learning go hand in hand.”

— Cathy King

My Journey in Faith and Montessori

Hello! I’m Cathy King, co-founder and primary teacher at Southbridge Christian Montessori. As a Christian wife, mother, and lifelong educator, I truly believe there is something special that happens when faith and Montessori education come together. For me, teaching is not just about academics—it’s about helping children discover who they are in God’s eyes, and guiding them as they grow in confidence, curiosity, and compassion.

My Professional Path

My journey in education began nearly twenty years ago with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, focused on middle school science. Later, I earned my Master of Education in Teaching and Learning, and I currently hold a Minnesota teaching license as well as Montessori certification.

Over the years, I have taught first and third grades, served as a science specialist and Magnet Facilitator, and worked on leadership teams developing school programs and professional development. Seventeen years were spent in public schools, but when I found Montessori, it felt like coming home. For the last two years, I’ve been honored to teach in a Montessori environment, where my passion for hands-on, relational learning truly thrives.

Why Montessori and Faith Are the Perfect Match

Even before I found Montessori, I was always drawn to approaches that respected the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. When I entered my first Montessori classroom, I realized that what I loved about education—respect, independence, deep relationships—were core to the method.

What makes Southbridge truly unique, though, is our commitment to weaving faith into the learning experience. I love watching children discover the world, but even more, I love guiding them to see God’s hand in that discovery. Here, children are encouraged to be curious, kind, and thoughtful—and to know they are deeply loved.

Looking Ahead: Building Something Different, Building in Love

As we look to the future at Southbridge, I’m passionate about helping education look different for this generation of kids. I believe in a paradigm shift—one that makes space for critical thinking, collaboration, and the kind of character that lasts a lifetime.

I want them to leave each day with proof that real learning is an adventure—sometimes a little messy, always full of joy.

But, I want even more for our families. Beyond simply feeling connected and supported, my hope is that every parent and child who joins Southbridge experiences a love that reflects the love of Jesus—steadfast, unconditional, and always present.
